The folks at B&B Grocery have received plenty of attention from all sorts of folks (Andrew Zimmern, Juice, Saveur, etc.) so I am sure I am not adding much to the conversation already taking place about them. But I felt the need to sing their praises, too.
I discovered B&B through the best burgers list put together by Road Tips. Slakingfool’s recommendation, via Twitter, did not hurt either. So, on a cold, January, Saturday morning I made my way to the south side of Des Moines to try them out. There isn’t much to say about the cheeseburgers at B&B except, they are great. When you imagine great burgers, you imagine these burgers – they come with whatever you want: lettuce, tomato, onions, ketchup, mustard, and of course, cheese.
The best part of the burger however lies in the meat – it is juicy, without being dry, it has a nice sear, without being burnt, and most importantly, it has a nice, almost smoky flavor that we crave from summertime grilling, without the taste of artificial smoke or lighter fluid.
